CILIA - Customized Intelligent Life-inspired Arrays

Project funded by the Future and Emergent Technologies arm of the IST Programme in the 6th Framework Programme

6th Framework Programme
Workpackage 3.2:
Experimental Demonstration Systems

Robotic models of sensor systems: CIRCE robotic bat head (top left); MEMS hair interface electronics (top right); MEMS hair array (bottom left); robotic demonstrator platform (bottom right).

This work is concerned with the construction of robotic systems demonstrating the sensors and the sensing insights collected during the project.

The work consists of implementing the interface (hardware and software) between the MEMS sensors developed in the course of the project and the robotic system used as demonstrators. The combination of MEMS sensor, small robot platform and Bluetooth interface chosen allows assessing the sensor's performance in a number of robotic tasks. The knowledge gained from this work will be used to guide the new MEMS designs being worked on in WP 1.4 .

In addition, we will develop demonstrators built around the CIRCE robotic bat head and the robots equipped with the new MEMS sensors to show how the new insights gained in the course of the project can help in robotic sensing tasks.
